Excursions around Indore

There are several places of tourist interest that you can visit as day excursions. The ruins of Mandu, a fort citadel, are a must-visit. At Maheshwar on the banks of the Narmada, you can see the famous Maheshwari weaves, and the fort-palace of the legendary queen Ahilyabai Holkar. A scenic boat ride on the Narmada river, seeing the sacred bathing ghats, is a serene experience. The pilgrimage sites of Ujjain and Omkareshwar are also nearby. When you go on these excursions, you can also see the towns and villages of rural Madhya Pradesh, where the people are primarily engaged in agriculture.
