There are several places of tourist interest that you can visit as day excursions. The ruins of Mandu, a fort citadel, are a must-visit. At Maheshwar on the banks of the Narmada, you can see the famous Maheshwari weaves, and the fort-palace of the legendary queen Ahilyabai Holkar. A scenic boat ride on the Narmada river, seeing the sacred bathing ghats, is a serene experience. The pilgrimage sites of Ujjain and Omkareshwar are also nearby.
